This week we catch up with Emma Linden. Emma is a former MLaw student who spent the final year of her degree working in the business law clinic in the Student Law Office under the supervision of Elaine Campbell. During her time in the Student Law Office Emma advised clients on a range of issues including intellectual property protection and corporate governance. Emma tells us what she has been up to since graduating from the MLaw degree in 2013. She said:
“After graduating from the MLaw degree I had still not decided what career path to choose for myself. I wanted to see the world and decided to book myself a one way flight to New Zealand. My qualification made me very desirable to a variety of employers and as such, I was offered a job at a top University to carry out some project work. The job required somebody with a legal background but they did not have to be a fully qualified solicitor. This opened my eyes to the variety of jobs that are available if you decide not to pursue a training contract.
When the project finished I decided to try my hand at something completely different and I gained employment working on a ski resort and skiing all winter. After this I worked on a boat and was on the water all summer.
Now that I have returned back to the UK my travelling has been the talking point of all my interviews. In fact, my interviewers have spent 50-75% of the slot talking about what I had experienced and the things I had seen! So don’t be afraid to go travelling and do something crazy before you decide on your chosen career path. I have received job offers within a month of being back in the UK and because of my experiences I believe this is why my interviews went so well!”
Emma currently works at Axiom Law as an Administration Coordinator. We wish Emma all the best for the future.
